Industrial Resources Limited (“IRL”) is a company wholly owned by the Industrial Development Corporation (“IDC”) located in Lusaka Zambia. Its sole purpose is to exploit dormant natural resources within the Republic of Zambia, allowing for exploration and mining of select minerals and eventually their commercialization whilst enhancing job creation as per IDC mandate. IRL is positioned to act as an investor in the mining sector, cutting across primary production, beneficiation, refining, and value addition.

As part of its growth strategy, the Company is looking to fill the following position:

FIELD OFFICER

  1. ROLE OVERVIEW

The Field Officer is responsible for managing the day-to-day purchasing of gold from approved suppliers and artisanal miners, ensuring fair pricing, transparent transactions, and proper documentation. The role ensures accurate valuation, transparent transactions, secure handling of cash and gold, and timely reporting in support of IRL’s operational, financial, and regulatory objectives.

The position also promotes responsible sourcing practices, supplier engagement, and adherence to security, compliance, and traceability standards within the gold trading value chain. The position will be based in Mpika/Shiwang’andu.

 

  1. KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Gold Trading and Assaying
  • Receive and deal with individuals and entities looking to sell gold at IRL marketing centre.
  • Work closely with the assayer to verify weight and purity prior to finalizing purchases.
  • Calculate trade value based on assay results and daily prevailing prices.
  • Conduct gold purchasing transactions in line with approved pricing structures London Bullion Market Association (LBMA benchmark minus discount).
 
  • Transaction Management
  • Issue receipts for all trades and process payments to sellers.
  • Maintain accurate purchase records, receipts, and documentation of all trading activities for audit purposes.
  • Manage the cash float and ensure safe handling of funds.
 
  • Asset Security and Logistics
  • Ensure adherence to security protocols during purchases, storage, and transport.
  • Ensure the secure storage of both cash and gold held within the buying centre.
  • Coordinate the timely dispatch of gold consignments to designated central storage facilities
  • Maintain accurate inventory and movement records for all gold received and dispatched.

 

  • Reporting and Compliance
  • Provide daily updates to management regarding cash and gold stock levels.
  • Prepare daily transaction summaries and reconciliations
  • Submit detailed weekly reports covering all trading centre activities and performance.
  • Participate in periodic stock counts, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, KYC protocols, anti-money laundering (AML) procedures, traceability standards, and applicable government regulations.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by maintaining complete and accurate records.

 

  • Stakeholder Engagement Support
  • Build relationships with ASMs, cooperatives, and local suppliers, promoting formalized trade.
  • Educate suppliers on responsible sourcing and traceability requirements.
  • Support awareness and compliance with government licensing and export requirements.

 

  1. ESSENTIAL/DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
  • Professional Qualification/ Relevant Work Experience/Other Requirements
  • Grade 12 Certificate with five (5) O Levels.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Mining, Procurement, or a relevant field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in field trading, procurement, or mineral marketing or relevant operations.
  • Proven experience in cash handling and high-volume transaction environments.
  • Experience handling high-value commodities, preferably within the mining sector.
  • A Valid Zambian Driver’s License.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body.

 

  • Skill Specifications
  • Practical understanding of gold trading operations and LBMA pricing mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with LBMA pricing mechanisms, gold market trends, and pricing calculations.
  • Strong cash handling, reconciliation, and transaction management skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate transaction records, inventory logs, and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to operate effectively in field environments while maintaining compliance with operational procedures and reporting requirements.

  1. WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Field work environment, primarily based at Gold Buying Centres
  • Secure and controlled operational environment
  • Regular local travel within designated trade areas and occasional travel to Lusaka.
