ENERGY
As a priority sector, energy is a key driver in promoting any economic activity. Therefore, Government through the IDC is spearheading the diversification of the country’s energy mix by establishing alternative sources of power such as solar.
AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY
A well performing agricultural sector translates into significant improvements in the country's GDP, contributes to employment generation, poverty reduction and broadens the country's tax base.
MANUFACTURING
The sector is important in the country’s objective to industrialise the economy through value addition to various natural endowments thereby creating jobs. The IDC is mandated to support and initialize new ventures that develop industrial capacity and create jobs in the Zambian economy.
MINING
For several decades, copper mining has been the largest economic activity in Zambia, contributing over 70% of export earnings. The IDC is promoting diversified exploration and mining of minerals such as gold, gemstones, cobalt and manganese, with emphasis on local beneficiation, value addition as well as tapping into global markets and value chains.
TOURISM
Government has identified tourism, including arts and culture as one of the priority growth sectors of the national economy. Tourism has also been singled out by Government as one of the priority areas for investment due to its numerous forward and backward linkages to various other sectors of the economy.
