Mulungushi Village Complex Limited (MVCL) has unveiled seven newly renovated hotel-standard rooms and introduced a refreshed corporate brand identity, a signal of the company’s growth ambitions.
Since its establishment in 1970, Mulungushi Village has served as one of Lusaka’s most notable mixed-use complexes, providing quality residential, commercial and hospitality facilities within a secure and tranquil environment.
Speaking during the launch, MVCL Vice Board Chairperson Ms Mirriam Chiyaba said the company was evolving to remain relevant and competitive in changing markets.
She said to guide this transformation, the company, which is wholly owned by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), has developed a 15-year Strategic Plan running from 2025 to 2040. The plan will be implemented in three five-year phases designed to progressively modernize the complex and expand its footprint.
The first phase, already underway, focuses on revamping and modernising existing infrastructure across the property. Key projects include the rehabilitation of 45 residential villas, upgrades to the water reticulation system, improvements to internal roads, and the refurbishment of sports and recreational facilities.
A major milestone in this phase is the launch of seven newly renovated hotel-standard rooms, which were created through the conversion of previously underutilised commercial office space.
The launch ceremony also saw the unveiling of a new Mulungushi Village logo, which is part of a broader brand refresh aimed at reflecting the company’s evolving market positioning and strategic ambitions.
In addition, the company handed over a fully refurbished villa to a new tenant following extensive rehabilitation works. The unit is an example of the quality standards that the villa rehabilitation programme seeks to deliver.
Looking ahead, the second phase of the strategic plan will focus on expanding hospitality services through the construction of a new three-star hotel within the Mulungushi Village premises, utilising about two hectares of land.
The final phase envisions the establishment of MVCL 2 in Livingstone. This is envisaged to be a country-club style development that will extend the brand beyond Lusaka and position Mulungushi Village as a national hospitality and real estate brand.
IDC Chief Executive Officer Mr Cornwell Muleya described the conversion of office space into hotel rooms as a strong example of strategic asset optimisation.
He said the initiative demonstrated the type of innovative thinking, operational efficiency and sustainable business models that IDC encourages across its portfolio.
Mr Muleya added that while IDC would continue to provide oversight and support, the success of Mulungushi Village would ultimately depend on disciplined implementation of its strategic plan, strong corporate governance, financial prudence and a customer-focused culture.
