Kawambwa Tea Industries Limited (KTIL) is the country’s major tea producer, located in Kawambwa District of Luapula Province, Zambia. The Company grows, processes, and packages tea for sale. KTIL started as a Government tea-growing pilot project in 1969, became a State-Owned Company in 1975, was privatized in 1996, and was reacquired by the Government of the Republic of Zambia in 2015. The Company operated under Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO) Tea Company Limited until 2019, when it was incorporated under the Industrial Development Corporation Limited (IDC).

As part of its growth strategy, the Company is looking to fill the following position:

MARKETING MANAGER

Role Overview:

The Marketing Manager is responsible for the development and execution of effective marketing strategies to enhance brand visibility, drive product demand, and increase market share both locally and internationally. Key duties include market research, campaign management, digital marketing, and collaboration with the sales team. The role also involves stakeholder engagement and regular reporting on marketing performance. This role reports to the General Manager.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and Execute Strategic Marketing Plans
  • Design and implement short- and long-term marketing strategies that support sales growth and brand visibility.
  • Align marketing activities with production cycles, sales targets, and seasonal tea consumption trends.
  • Establish measurable goals for market penetration, customer reach, and campaign performance.
  1. Conduct Market and Consumer Research
  • Analyze local and international tea markets to identify growth opportunities and evolving consumer preferences.
  • Track industry trends such as organic tea demand, health trends, or sustainability.
  • Monitor competitor pricing, packaging, and promotional activities.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on research findings.
  • Gather and analyze customer feedback to improve products and services.
  • Use customer insights to inform marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Conduct surveys and focus groups to gather customer opinions.
  1. Drive Brand Development and Product Positioning
  • Build and maintain a strong brand identity for Kawambwa Tea in domestic and export markets.
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging that communicates quality, heritage, and sustainability across all marketing channels.
  • Oversee packaging innovation to appeal to different market segments (e.g., premium, budget, export).
  • Oversee the creation of marketing materials, such as brochures, newsletters, and social media content.
  1. Manage Digital Marketing and Online Presence
  • Oversee website management, SEO, and e-commerce integration (if applicable).
  • Grow and engage audiences through social media platforms with consistent and localized content.
  • Use analytics to optimize digital spend and campaign performance.
  1. Lead Integrated Marketing Campaigns
  • Plan and manage end-to-end marketing campaigns across digital, print, radio, and outdoor platforms.
  • Promote specific product lines (e.g., green tea, black tea) based on stock levels and market demand.
  • Use storytelling and cultural narratives to build emotional connections with consumers ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and marketing objectives.
  1. Manage Events and Product Launches
  • Plan and execute local community outreach events, product tastings, and participation in expos/fairs.
  • Coordinate the launch of new product variants and ensure market readiness.
  1. Collaborate with Sales and Distribution Teams
  • Align marketing promotions with sales strategies to support retailer/distributor relationships.
  • Provide marketing support materials (POS, brochures, demos) to sales agents.
  • Coordinate trade promotions and in-store activations to drive retail sales.
  1. Build Strategic Partnerships
  • Develop partnerships with retailers, hospitality businesses, health and wellness influencers, etc.
  • Cultivate media relationships to secure PR opportunities and editorial coverage.

 

  1. Monitor Marketing Performance and Budget Utilization
  • Track KPIs for each campaign and report on spend effectiveness.
  • Continuously analyze marketing performance data to refine strategies.
  • Ensure optimal use of the marketing budget and ensure cost-effectiveness.

 

  1. Reporting:
  • Provide monthly and quarterly reports on marketing performance and strategic recommendations.
  • Collaborate on cross-departmental initiatives that support overall business growth.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Grade 12 Certificate with five (5) O Levels.
  • Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a relevant field.
  • Professional membership with the Zambia Institute of Marketing (ZIM). 
  • Minimum eight (8) years of work experience in a management position.
