The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) says the Graduate Trainee Programme is a cornerstone of the Corporation’s vision to build capacity, foster leadership, and equip young professionals with skills that drive the country’s industrialization and a commitment towards human capital development in Zambia.
Speaking in an interview at Mulungushi Internation Conference Centre in Lusaka where IDC has been conducting aptitude tests for the 2025 cohort, IDC’s acting Chief Human Capital Officer, Mr. Owen Katongo Kabanda, said the programme is designed to equip fresh graduates with practical skills and industry experience which aligns with the nation’s broader training and skills development agenda.
Mr. Kabanda explained that the programme targets high-achieving young professionals who must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a Merit or Distinction and be 25 years old or younger.
“The selection process ensures that only the most qualified candidates join the initiative through a transparent and merit-based system”, he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kabanda disclosed that out of the over 500 applicants who applied for the programme in 2024, a total of 136 candidates were shortlisted to proceed to sit for the aptitude tests which are independently prepared, administered, and marked by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
“A total of top 50 successful candidates will advance to screening interviews, followed by psychometric assessments which measure one’s personality and match it to the job profile for the top 20 candidates. These will proceed to final selection interviews after which the top 10 candidates are selected”, Mr. Kabanda disclosed.
