Three traditional leaders from Eastern Province have called on the Eastern Tropical Fruit Company (ETF) Board of Directors and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) to accelerate efforts toward the commissioning of the fruit processing plant in Katete District.
Speaking during a curtesy call paid on them by the Boad of Directors from ETF and IDC officials, Chief Mbang’ombe, Chieftainess Kawaza, and Chief Kathumba emphasized that the operationalisation of the plant will significantly improve livelihoods in the area, noting that Katete is an agronomy-driven district with vast potential for fruit production.
The traditional leaders said the commissioning of the plant is expected to stimulate economic activity, enhance agricultural productivity, and motivate farmers to increase fruit cultivation to supply the factory. They further urged the ETF Board to work with unity and dedication to completing the remaining tasks required to operationalize the facility, which is anticipated to create employment opportunities for many qualified local residents.
Meanwhile, ETF Board Chairperson Dr. Cassim Masi said the presence of the Board in Katete is a clear indication that his company means business and also reflects IDC’s commitment to turning the fruit processing project into a reality.
Dr. Masi reaffirmed ETF’s journey ahead which fits into the IDC’s broader mandate to spearhead Zambia’s industrialisation portfolio transformation and wealth creation.
And speaking during the curtesy calls paid on the traditional leaders in the district, IDC’s Acting Chief Human Capital Officer Mr. Owen Kabanda stated that IDC remains committed to leading investments that promote wealth creation, inclusive growth, and sustainable jobs in line with the aspirations of the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP).
Mr. Kabanda disclosed that the commissioning of the Katete plant is part of IDC’s ongoing efforts to support value addition and strengthen agro-industrial value chains across the country.
ETF is currently undergoing technical assessments and employing strategic management positions that will ensure that the commission is a reality.
Ends.
