SENIOR HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER – EASTERN TROPICAL FRUIT COMPANY LIMITED
Eastern Tropical Fruit Company Limited (ETF) is jointly owned by Zambia Fruit Company and Vitaplus Foods Limited, under the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). The Company operates a hybrid fruit and vegetable processing plant located in Katete District, Eastern Province of Zambia.
As part of its growth strategy, the Company is looking to fill the following position:
SENIOR HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER
Role Overview:
The Senior Health and Safety Officer is responsible for developing, monitoring, maintaining, and implementing all statutory safety and health functions at the factory. This role will ensure the company operates in full compliance with national safety regulations and best practices, promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Policy and Program Development:
- Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and programs to minimize workplace risks and hazards.
- Conduct risk assessments and job hazard analyses for all factory operations.
- Stay up-to-date with national health and safety legislation and ensure the company’s compliance.
Training and Awareness:
- Provide health and safety training to all employees, including new hire orientation and ongoing safety refreshers.
- Lead safety campaigns and initiatives to promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability.
- Ensure all staff are properly trained on the use of safety equipment and emergency procedures.
Inspection and Reporting:
- Conduct regular factory inspections and audits to identify potential safety hazards and non-compliance issues.
- Investigate all workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of all safety inspections, incidents, and training, and prepare detailed reports for management and regulatory bodies.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including fire safety, chemical spills, and medical emergencies.
- Coordinate and lead regular emergency drills to ensure all staff are prepared to respond effectively.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or related field
- Minimum 5 years’ industrial health and safety experience, preferably in manufacturing or food processing.
- Professional certification in occupational health and safety is desirable.
- Membership with a recognized professional regulatory body
- Strong knowledge of Zambian labor laws and health and safety regulations.
