PHOTO FOCUS: The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) today joined key stakeholders in the mining industry at the third Mining Local Content Conference & Expo held at Protea Hotel in Ndola.
Organized the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) the Conference focused its deliberations on the challenges and opportunities surrounding local content initiatives in Zambia’s mining sector, emphasizing the urgent need to strengthen policy and legal frameworks for more effective implementation.
The official opening was graced by Mines and Minerals Development Minister Hon. Paul Kabuswe, Transport and Logistics Minister and Ndola Central MP Hon. Frank Tayali, and Copperbelt Province Minister Hon. Elisha Matambo.
In his address, Hon. Kabuswe acknowledged the longstanding dialogue around local content and announced that Government is finalizing a statutory instrument to legally support increased participation of local mine suppliers. Currently, local suppliers account for only 10% of the estimated US$4 billion in mining supply contracts.
On the sidelines of the conference, IDC exhibited alongside several participants, showcasing Industrial Resources Limited, its newly established company. This special purpose vehicle is focused on exploration, mining, and commercialization of select minerals, with a mandate spanning primary production, beneficiation, refining, and value addition.
