The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), through its Human Capital Division, hosted students from the University of Zambia Development Studies Association (UNZADESA) for an engaging Thought Leadership Session at IDC Head Office.
The delegation comprised students pursuing Development Studies who visited IDC to deepen their understanding of the Corporation’s mandate and operations and gain practical insight into the corporate environment.
Encouraging excellence and continuous learning
The students were welcomed and addressed by IDC Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr Mainga Mukando on behalf of Chief Executive Officer Mr Cornwell Muleya.
Mr Mukando encouraged the students to embrace excellence, professionalism and continuous learning as they prepare to transition into the world of work.

Understanding IDC’s long-term direction
Mr Mukando explained that IDC is implementing a 10-year strategic plan running to 2033, under which the Corporation aims to become Africa’s best-performing Wealth Fund and investment partner of choice.
The plan targets a significant increase in dividend income and the creation of 40,000 direct jobs through investments in agriculture, manufacturing, energy, mining, infrastructure and tourism.
Preparing students for the workplace
IDC Chief Human Capital Officer Mr Owen Katongo Kabanda welcomed the students and noted that close to half of IDC’s workforce is under the age of 35.
He encouraged the students to embrace adaptability, self-development and leadership as they prepare to enter the workplace.

From academic learning to professional practice
The session included presentations from IDC’s Corporate Strategy, Investments, Portfolio, Finance and Treasury, and Human Capital divisions.
Students also learned about the IDC Graduate Trainee Programme, which helps bridge the gap between academic and corporate life by equipping graduates with practical experience and insight for career success.
Beyond the annual Graduate Trainee Programme, which develops young graduates for investment analyst roles, IDC runs a deliberate Thought Leadership Programme aimed at mentoring tertiary students and preparing them for the demands of the workplace.
IDC remains committed to investing not only in industries, but also in people by empowering young professionals with the knowledge, skills and confidence to contribute meaningfully to Zambia’s economic transformation.
