The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) handed over medical equipment to Mphangwe Health Post in Katete as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives aimed at improving the lives of local communities.
The donation, valued at over K85,000, was officially handed over by IDC Acting Chief Corporate Services Officer Ms. Namakau Mukelabai during a ceremony attended by Katete District Commissioner Mr. Raphael Phiri and Acting District Health Director Dr. Makungu Makungu.
The equipment included three examination beds, three bedside privacy screens, two medicine trolleys, a digital blood pressure machine, two adult weighing scales, a steel medicine cupboard and two water storage drums.
Ms. Mukelabai emphasised IDC’s commitment to supporting communities beyond its core business operations. “Through our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, we aim to address critical community needs and be a positive force for change,” she said.
The donation represented the first phase of IDC’s initiative at the facility and focused on meeting the health post’s immediate equipment needs.
IDC also sought partners to help implement the next phase involving construction of a new clinic. Mphangwe Health Post serves over 9,800 people. Built in 1944, the facility has experienced significant infrastructure deterioration.
Katete District Commissioner Mr. Raphael Phiri thanked IDC and noted the importance of partnerships in strengthening the healthcare system.
