IDC LAUNCHES INTRA-GROUP MARKETPLACE TO BOOST TRADE AMONG SUBSIDIARIES

The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) has launched the Intra-Group Marketplace, a digital platform created to strengthen trade and collaboration among its subsidiaries.
Launched under the theme “One Group, One Vision: Growth Through Synergies,” the platform is designed to enable companies within the IDC Group to transact seamlessly and efficiently. The companies can list goods and services, request quotations, and complete transactions in real time, ultimately reducing costs and enhancing profitability.
The IDC Group comprises 36 of Zambia’s largest and most strategic enterprises, spread across 12 economic sectors, with a combined asset base exceeding K300 billion as of December 2024. Collectively, these entities generated more than K85 billion in annual revenues in 2023 and 2024. Despite this scale, intra-group trade has remained relatively low, accounting for less than 5% of overall transactions.
IDC Chief Executive Officer Mr. Cornwell Muleya said the new platform has the potential to transform this picture and retain a greater share of procurement within the Group.
“Imagine increasing intra-group transactions from just 5% to 25%; this alone would keep K10 billion circulating within our Group, strengthening our financial resilience and driving sustainable growth,” he said.
The guest of honour, Finance Minister Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, represented by Mr. Mordsen Chibuye Ruveve, Director of Finance in charge of Local Government and Projects at the Ministry of Finance, emphasized the initiative’s wider economic importance.
“By prioritizing internal sourcing, our SOEs can mitigate external shocks, stabilize supply chains, and retain value within the Zambian economy. This approach not only supports the growth of individual subsidiaries but also strengthens the collective competitiveness of the IDC Group,” he said.
Alongside the launch, IDC hosted an exhibition by subsidiaries, where they showcased their products and services.
