In the photo is ๐๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ฐ (โbuffaloโ), the largest single gemstone ever unearthed at Kagem Mine, weighing 2.337 kilograms โ equivalent to 11,685 carats.
๐๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ฐ was discovered on 3 August 2025 in Kagemโs Chama pit by geologist Dharanidhar Seth, a seasoned expert with more than a decade of experience, alongside Justin Banda, a veteran chiseller renowned for his skill in carefully freeing rare gems from their host rock.
This exceptional emerald will be offered at Kagemโs upcoming high-quality auction, scheduled to run from 25 August to 11 September 2025. All proceeds from the sale will be fully repatriated to Zambia.
Kagem, the worldโs single largest producing emerald mine, is 75% owned by Gemfields while 25% is owned by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

Over the years, Kagem has earned a global reputation for recovering some of the worldโs most iconic emeralds. These include the 6,225-carat ๐๐ฏ๐ด๐ฐ๐ง๐ถ (โelephantโ, 2010), the 5,655-carat ๐๐ฏ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฎ๐ถ (โlionโ, 2018), and the 7,525-carat ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ฆ (โrhinoโ, 2021). With its staggering weight of 2.337 kilograms, ๐๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ฐ now stands as the largest single emerald of exceptional quality ever discovered at Kagem to date.
