In commemoration of International Women’s Day, women at the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) took a meaningful step to support vulnerable girls at the Vision of Hope Transit Centre. The team donated essential items including mealie meal, cooking oil, sugar, bathing soap, detergents, groundnuts, sanitary materials and paint.
The Vision of Hope Transit Centre has supported girls facing difficult circumstances such as abuse, child trafficking, neglect and abandonment for the past 16 years. At the time of the initiative, the centre provided shelter and rehabilitation to 38 girls ranging in age from four months to 25 years.
During the donation ceremony, Vision of Hope founder Ms. Chitalu Chishimba expressed gratitude to IDC and highlighted the contribution’s impact on the girls’ wellbeing. She explained that the centre’s mission is not only to provide a safe space, but also to rehabilitate and reintegrate the girls into society through skills development and emotional support.
Addressing the girls, IDC Head of Research and Strategy Ms. Sombo Kaweza, who led the donation initiative, shared an empowering message: “We are happy to celebrate International Women’s Day with all of you. Despite the life challenges you have gone through, you should know that you are special and have the ability to change the world. You are safe in this facility, and this shows the love of God, giving you another chance in life.”
IDC’s support to the Vision of Hope Transit Centre reaffirmed its commitment to uplifting communities and supporting vulnerable people through practical action.
