The Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) has inaugurated the new Board of Directors for Kalene Hills Fruit Company Limited (KHFC), a move aimed at advancing IDC’s Governance Reform Strategy, increasing the company’s performance in the manufacturing industry and its profitability.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at IDC in Lusaka on Friday through a speech read on his behalf by the Chief Portfolio Officer Mr. Siakakaye Siameja, IDC CEO Mr. Cornwell Muleya said the decision to bring in a new Board at KHFC is part of IDC’s broader strategy that will guide subsidiaries within IDC to implement operational reforms that will lead to improved financial performance, benefits to the shareholders and the people of Zambia.
Mr. Muleya explained that the targets set for Kalene Hills are high and top of the agenda is for the new Board to play a pivotal role in ensuring that the company increases production and purchase from local farmers beyond the current 2,500 metric tonnes of pineapples.
He disclosed that Implementing robust out-grower schemes will be essential to achieving the much-needed increase, while optimising the plant’s full capacity through diverse product offerings.
KHFC is one of IDC’s flagship fruit processing projects and has the potential to lead in Agro processing.
The company at full capacity can process various fruits simultaneously, including water, citrus, ketchup, and canned products.

- Ms. Charlotte Mweemba
