The Industrial Development Company Zambia Limited (IDC) is an investments holding company wholly owned by the Government of Zambia. The IDC is mandated to play a catalytic role in deepening and supporting Zambia’s industrialisation capacity to promote job creation and domestic wealth formation across key economic sectors.

In view of the current electricity deficit in Zambia on account of low water levels for hydro power generation, H.E President Edgar Chagwa Lungu assigned IDC the task of rapid development of up to 600MW of Solar PV Power. The project will be undertaken and executed using the Scaling Solar Initiative developed by the World Bank Group. This is being done with technical assistance and advisory services to IDC from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. Therefore, IDC intends to develop and install up to 100MW of Solar PV power generated from two plants to be located within the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone (LSMFEZ) on an area of approximately 120 ha in total. This constitutes Round 1 of the Zambia Scaling Solar Project.

Further to the public scoping meetings held on 11th and 12th March 2016 and in compliance with the Environmental Management Act No. 12 of 2011 of the Laws of Zambia, read together with the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, Statutory Instrument No. 28 of 1997, the IDC is now inviting Government Agencies, Local Authorities, Non-governmental Organisations and Community-Based Organisations, Interested and Affected Parties and members of the public to the public disclosure meeting on the draft report for the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) on the proposed Solar Project.
